This Comprehensive Reading and Spelling Phonic system is suitable for pupils from age 4 to adult.
The system is structured, graded, cumulative and fun. It is full of successful and differentiated, interactive teaching material, suiting varying learning styles from those pupils who do not have a natural aptitude for gaining the complex literacy skills, (by providing the basis for multi sensory lesson material) whilst accelerating the progress of those who do. Records of achievement and diagrams, that can be enlarged for wall charts, are included and are very useful to the teacher, who, at a glance can see what has been learned and what has to be taught next.
The system also lends itself to independent learning or to reinforce any gaps in foundation work. Where a break in learning has occurred, (through lock down due to Covid, or illness), that gap can be filled. Find the stage that your pupil has reached and continue from there. As this system is graded and cumulative, ¨Catching up after Covid¨ will become a problem of the past!
Colouring in is used to calm and aid concentration and it also helps to develop hand and eye co-ordination. Relaxing facilitates passive learning. It also gives an opportunity to those artistic children, to develop their particular talent and to shine and gain confidence.
Early, attractive simple matching games (progressing to Bingo for up to 4 players) are included and word wheels to help overactive children to concentrate and focus by holding the octagon or word wheel with both their hands. The simple game of chance, "LAND ON YOUR PLANET" is included for those needing over- learning and consolidation work.
Also included are pages showing the ¨Word family¨ list to be learned, with a picture and narrative.
This is a complete page showing a word “family” list on the left hand side, for those with a good symbolic memory. An interesting, beautiful or often fun picture, demonstrating some words from the list, can be coloured in, and is especially suitable for those pupils with a predominately pictorial memory (and often a poor symbolic one). The page concludes with a narrative beneath the picture, again to include words from the list, in rhythm where possible.
This starts to develop reading with confidence, the pupil having already familiarised her or himself with the words. Reading has been described as a psycho linguistic guessing game.
Many students use a little of all the above learning methods, whilst others rely on a predominate part of their memory. Those with a poor symbolic memory and little or no “look and say” memory are at a dreadful disadvantage when attempting to acquire the literacy skills and need the support of their often superior pictorial memory (these will include, very broadly speaking, creative, artistic people).
The system order.
Starting with, The Accurate Alphabet, continuing with Blends (consonant digraphs), it then follows on with 3 sections:
1) STARTER
2) INTERMEDIATE
3) ADVANCED
There are also sections covering Mnemonics and Homonyms, and information on Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Left handedness and Laterality and more.
As the site is developed, information is hoped to be added about Aspergers (for whom this method of teaching has been successfully used). In fact the complete system has been tried and tested and sold world wide over many years, as it is suitable as supplementary T.E.F.L material in Switzerland, Brunei,
El Salvador as a few examples.
There will be samples of poetry and children’s work shown, "here and there" as examples of encouragement.
